Joining a running club

Get clubbing!

Joining a running club is a great way to get motivated to run and to improve your running. Do not be daunted, most running clubs have different groups for different levels of runners and there is usually a leader of the group who takes you running. Its a good idea to see this leader as a personal trainer, he or she is there to help improve your running technique and also to give advice.
Another benefit is that you get to run in different places and parks, what better way is there to get to know your environment.
I joined a running group a year after I had been running because although I like running by myself I was also ready for the next level. Socially, its a great place to meet a wide variety of people who do other things in their 'other lives' from doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs of companies, policemen, housewives, running brings you all together. Its great. I have made some wonderful friends at my running club. I also go running on a wednesday evening with friends of mine that I met through the club... Jacqueline, Katy and Bridgette... this is for you! :-). You are amazing women and you inspire me.
You also get the opportunity to get more involved with the running club if you so desire and therefore your local community. Through my running club, I have taken part in races and events. Last July I ran the 400 and 800 meters for the vlaams (over 40's) it was a wonderful feeling knowing I was taking part in a national event. Clubs are great for races, events and meeting people, so get clubbing!
