Shopping for shoes and clothes
The single most important decision you will make in your running life is choosing the correct trainers. My top tip is not to skimp,
buy the most expensive your money can buy. You have to remember that your feet are going to be taking a lot of pounding and you want them
to be properly cushioned so that you do not end up with painful blisters and twisted feet! or even bach ache...
My number one tip is that you should go to a
specialist running shop where a trained sales staff fits you with different types of shoes and sees which one's you run in best. Some of the
good running shops actually have a treadmill where they actually see how you run on a screen and that helps to choose the best running
shoe for you. I would suggest that you dont go for the 'fashionable' trainers. Just because you spotted P Diddy wearing them does not mean they make a good pair of running shoes :-)
I have been using Brooks since the beginning of my running life, they
are quite expensive, but I have never had an injury, they seem to be made especially for my feet and are well cushioned. If you decide to go for a pair of Brooks,
it is advisable to always go up one size than you normally wear, that way you dont have to 'break them in' and they also feel a lot more
comfortable.
Another tip, especially if you have already been running, is to take your current pair of trainers to the shop with you, this gives the
sales staff an idea of the type of running shoe that is good for you. Once your trainers are in place, you can hit the pavements immediately just
go out of your front door and start!... and oh! dont forget your cotton socks!...
Now clothes... dont go crazy and start splashing out on all the designer sports gear. All you need to begin with once you've got your trainers are a
pair of jogging bottoms and a teeshirt and you are ready to GO!
Once you have a bit of running experience then you can start adding to your
collection, I personally prefer the adidas jogging pants and jackets, they fit well and are comfortable, but then this
doesnt really matter as long as what you buys fits. I also tend to prefer to dress in layers, so that as it gets hotter, I can get rid of the extra layers.
Remember that no matter how cold it looks outside, when you've been running you will warm up.
Another thing to look out for is fabrics that have moisture
management, these help the sweat to evaporate. When you find that you have more shelves of running clothes in your wardrobe than regular clothes, you know
you are a 'die hard' runner! ... like me! :-)
Now, that you look good, lets move on ...and oh! for the ladies out there dont forget
a good sports bra, you dont want them sagging south if it can be avoided. I always wear a bra that has high impact as they give a lot of support ...
